Stud Love

It's been a while since my last post and a lot has happened - I've even been overseas! But the one thing that hasn't changed is my absolute love of all things fashionable. And the thing that makes my (fashion) heart skip a beat this season? Studs! On jackets, on shoes, on handbags and everything in between, I simply adore them.

That's why I didn't think twice before grabbing this awesome leather jacket from Zara.

The great thing about this jacket is that it's really versatile. It works equally well with a pair of jeans as it does with a more formal dress. This gold number from Legit's Van Der Tlale range seemed the perfect 'accessory' to my studded jacket.

Shoes will always be my number one love (and weakness). I couldn't resist these turquoise and gold wedges from Luella especially since they were on sale and it was my birthday (yes, really). The only thing about this foot candy is that you've really got to watch your ankles - one wrong move and it's a long way down!

So as 2012 draws to a close, here's to an even more fabulous 2013. Just imagine all the fantastic finds you're still going to discover and all the new shoes you'll be able to acquire. And with sale season upon us, there are great bargains to be found too.

Until next time...happy shopping!

Cobalt Queen

There's nothing like a bit of cobalt blue to combat the winter cold. This cobalt baby from Woolies is great for those winter days when you want to look good but without too much effort. All you need is a bright coat, paired with black tights and you're good to go.

Pics by Mom
I simply adore the zip detail (even on the sleeves)- it really gives the coat a funky edge. And exposed zips are bang on trend.

Just because I love all things OTT, I thought why not add some leopard print heels? But, I made sure to keep the accessories nice and simple.

I hope everybody has made the most of the end-of-season sales - I picked up some great bargains. With the official start of Spring just around the corner - I can't wait to whip them toes out for some time in the sun!

Until next time...happy shopping.

These are a few of my favourite buys

So the other day I was doing some much needed stock-taking and came across a few of my favourite buys for Autumn/Winter 2012. What struck me was that the items I really like are not only funky but functional too.

Even fashionistas like us have to dress down once in a while, so why not do it in style and add a bit of bling?  I simply loved these gold ‘shower-cap’ sneakers by Nike with the ribbon laces. They may not have the same appeal as a sexy pair of heels but if you want to funk up your active wear – look no further!
Speaking of a sexy pair of heels, these black leather courts from Aldo were my bargain of the season. Pure, understated elegance in a shoe - every girl has to have a pair of these. And because they’re so high, your calves get a workout too (score!).

Although we’d all love a pair of genuine Uggs, most of us will settle for a decent imitation. This studded pair from Woolies caught my eye immediately. They may not be the most flattering boots in the world but you can’t beat them for comfort and warmth. And let’s face it, they’re a winter staple.

Ladies, I’m sure we’ll all agree that our handbags say a lot about us. I simply fell in love with this colour block satchel from Aldo. It’s stylish, functional and goes with everything in my wardrobe. In fact, I’ve become quite lazy to change my handbag!

And then last but not least – Jimmy turns 2 this season! My patent leather Jimmy Choo boots are absolutely one of my favourite items. Bought two years ago, these designer babies are for special occasions only.

So as the well-known song goes: "When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad...I simply remember my favourite things (or buys) and then I don't feel so bad!"

Until next time...happy shopping!

Leopard Love

We all love it. It could be on a belt, a scarf, a hot pair of shoes or, for the more daring among us, a full on dress. Let's face it, leopard print ROCKS! I'm not sure when my love affair with all things leopard began but I do know that it makes one feel utterly fabulous. And yes, I do have the bag, the dress, the coat, the scarf, the belt(s), the underwear (blush!) and, of course, the shoes!

So may I introduce one of the family's newest members - a fantastic pair of leopard print wedges by Forever21.

Pics by Callen
With shoes this bold, it's best to keep the rest of your outfit nice and simple. I went with a plain black dress (by Velvet at YDE) and paired it with a boyfriend blazer from Cotton On - one of my favourite stores. Boyfriend blazers are a hot trend this season, so my advice: get them in every colour!

If you do want to add a bit of colour to your leopard look then why not accessorise with some bright red lips? It's a great way to spice things up without overdoing it. Finally, finish off with a pair of hoop earrings and you're good to go.

So ladies get ready to release your inner leopard - I highly recommend it. After all, leopard print is my favourite colour!

Until next time...happy shopping.

Tickled Pink

Winter is usually the time of year when I whip out all things grey, black and...boring? But this season, I'm having so much fun with all the bright colours on offer. From cobalt coats to purple velvet booties and let's not forget my favourite leopard print - this Winter has it all.

Given my unusually festive mood for this time of the year (I'm a summer girl), I couldn't resist this bright pink tunic  from Free2BU at Edgars. On a grey Winter's day, it's a great way to brighten things up while looking bang on trend. This look is also really versatile - pair with opaque tights and heels for Winter glam or leggings and booties for a more casual look.

Navy is another great colour this season, especially as an alternative to black.  I decided to pair the pink with a navy tee and navy opaques to freshen up the look even more.

Oh, and did I mention the Navy heels? These patent Mary Jane courts (again Free2BU) with the colour-block platform absolutely stole my heart.

Talking about bright colours, I did a shoot a couple of weeks ago which highlighted some of the Autumn/Winter trends for 2012. The models were ladies of all ages and stages of life. Not only did they look fantastic but they were also amazing to work with. Needless to say, we had lots of fun!

And, some of the fab shoes on display...

I hope you're keeping warm during this cold weather - thank goodness for coats!

Until next time...happy shopping.

I'm Gold Babe

I went to the theatre a couple of nights ago and as it was pretty chilly I thought I've got to do something to spice up my look. Now I've always been a bit of a magpie in that I love all things shiny, especially metallics. So to brighten up that drab and dreary night, I donned a pair of gold skinny jeans and felt like a million metallic bucks.

Pics by Andre Josephs
When I saw these pants (from Mr P), it was love at first sight - I knew I simply had to have them. Plus they were the last pair in my size, so no questions asked! I paired them with a black boxy jersey that also had a slight metallic edge - a case of go big or go home. And just in case you're not convinced, metallics look great in night light...

One of the things that I love most about this season is the variety of booties on offer. This black pair of ribbon lace-ups from Woolies go with virtually everything and they're comfortable too - what more could a girl ask for?!

Of course with an outfit as shiny as this one, it's best to keep accessories to a minimum (the Christmas look just doesn't work). And talking about bold looks, I was absolutely blown away by this fabulous Milq and Honey dress worn by the gorgeous TV presenter and radio personality, Tracey Lange.

But wait, there's more... Don't you just love an exposed back?! These stunning patent black courts are from BronxWoman, for whom Tracey is an ambassador.

I hope everybody's off to a good start with their winter coat collection. And remember, this season is all about colour and texture. So if you've ever wanted to combine leather, fur and sequins - now is the time to shine!

Until next time...happy shopping.

Blue Sunday

I must admit, I'm reluctant to say good-bye to summer and all that goes with it - sand, sun, cocktails...mmm, sigh. Then I thought if i'm going to be blue about saying good-bye to my favourite season, then I might as well be ultra-fashionable cobalt blue.

I bought this cotton-knit dress on Woolies' end-of-season sale and couldn't wait to show it off. It's super comfortable and really easy to wear both casually and more formally. But the best thing about this dress - it's a great backdrop to an utterly fabulous pair of shoes.

Pics by Dad
The pièce de résistance of my ensemble is a great pair of cobalt peeps with awesome zebra-print heels. I got them for an absolute steal at Traffic. Drum roll please...

Of course accessorries are the spice of life and no outfit is complete without them. I went with a black-and-white colour-block clutch and a chunky bracelet from Sass Diva.

Feeling blue might not be so good, but dressing blue - fabulous!

Until next time...happy shopping.

Baby makes her GREEN jeans talk

Last month I was lucky enough to live like Paris when I spent three weeks at the Hilton hotel in Durban. It was marvellous and like any self-respecting fashionista, I packed up a storm and bought the rest. I spent the weekends exploring Durban, very often in my trusty denim jacket - it's one of those can't-live-without-it kind of items. Oh and did I mention my new over-sized spectacles? Yes, it's true, four eyes are...fabulous.
Pics by Latiefa Kariem
To go with my cropped denim jacket, I opted for another one of my favourite things this season - coloured skinny jeans. I paired my green skinnies from Mr Price with a loose-fit plain white tee. The great thing about this look is that you can dress it up with some hot wedges or put on flats for a day of exploration.

And what a day it was! With so much to see and do, it was great to be able to come 'home' and put my feet up.

And just in case you're wondering, coloured skinnies are going into Winter with us although the shades for Winter are slightly more sedate and sophisticated. So whatever colour you choose be sure to make your skinny jeans talk!

One last thing, didn't you just LOVE Cameron Diaz 's nude Gucci dress at the Oscars? She looked amazing!

I hope everbody's very busy whipping their transitional wardrobe into shape and with all the fabulous things that Autumn has to offer - I don't blame you for going a bit crazy.

Until next time...happy shopping!

Put a Hat on it

One of my favourite accessories for any season is a hat. Come rain or shine, it’s a great cover up for those inevitable ‘bad hair days’, it’s an excellent shield from the sun and it lends a certain pizzazz to any outfit. One of my best buys this season is this white straw fedora with pink flower detail from Woolies. Not only did it cover my less-than-perfect locks, it also served as the perfect accessory on a day out to Camps Bay.
Pics by Zahra Jassiem
A hat is best worn with a simple outfit because, let’s face it, you don’t want a competition going on between your head and the rest of your body. I went with a plain white vest and oh-so-feminine blue high-waisted shorts – one of my favourite trends this season.  Of course, no beach look is complete without a pair of shades – the ultimate summer accessory.

I wanted to be slightly more adventurous with my footwear and so animal print gladiators did just the trick. Sand between my toes? Yes please!

A visit to Camps Bay is simply not the same without a trip to the ice-cream shop, Sinful. Yes, you guessed it, the ice-cream is so good it’s...Sinful!

Camps Bay, the beach, good friends, fashion, it all just works so well together - and that’s the long and the high-waisted shorts of it.

Until next time...happy shopping!

J&B Met 2012...A day at the horses

The fashionable and fabulous were out and about at one of the year's hottest social events - the J&B Met, and I must tell you, it was a sight to behold. For many, the horses, beautiful as they are, are not the main attraction of the day because the fashion takes centre stage...or should that be centre track? The 'Made Different' theme left the door wide open to let one's imagination run wild and it was marvellous to see what different people came up with. In fact, it was almost as much fun getting ready for the event as the event itself!

Red was a popular colour at the Met this year so I was pleased to be 'getting it right' in my bright red playsuit. Clinched in the waist with only one full sleeve, the playsuit was definitely a trendy choice and a little different to the conventional dress.

Pics by Callen Petersen and Cindy Witten
Of course accessories could not have been more crucial, and the main accessory of the day was definitely the hat. Hats could be larger than life or smaller than small, but a hat there just HAD to be. Ever since The Royal Wedding, I've always been intrigued by Victoria Beckham's ponytail-and-tiny-hat combo and so I decided to try out a 'Posh' look of my own. I draped some chunky chains around my neck, kept the earrings tiny and of course could not leave without my trademark, over-sized ring. Add to that a pair of black and leopard print peeps and a leopard print bag with red trim (just so that it's not too matchy-matchy) and I was good to go.

The secret to a great time at the Met: a partner that's full of fashion fun, and mine did not disappoint - he even helped me get ready! Fashion designer, Callen Petersen, wow-ed fellow Met-goers with a fabulous avant-garde, menswear suit. The cut-out shoulders, futuristic sleeve, button-embellished tail coat and pin tucked sleeveless shirt took the 'Made Different' theme to a whole new level  and of course it was a huge hit with fashion lovers alike.

A day at the Met is also an opportunity to admire the fashion prowess of your fellow Met-goers and possibly draw some inspiration for the next time you need to whip up something unique and fabulous. Although there were many elegant, stunning and sometimes quite outrageous ensembles, for me this dress stood apart from the rest. After all, sometimes less is actually more.

Now the thing I was most interested in: the footwear (naturally). An amazing array of shoes were on display but this pair in particular caught my attention. Their owner said that they hail from California - oh the joys of online shopping!

And another Lady in Red that day...Miss SA, Melinda Bam.

What a great way to spend a Saturday - fabulous fashion, awesome people and some excellent horse racing - Igugu was queen of the track.

Until next time...happy shopping!

Tee time

Giorgio Armani once said: "I've always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet" and I'm sure we'll all agree that he was definitely onto something. As a matter of fact, the plain white tee is one of those basics I simply couldn't live without. So when deciding what to wear to a brunch meeting on one of Cape Town's cooler summer days, my trusty white tee bailed me out...yet again. Of course the beauty of this tee is that it provides you with a blank canvas which allows you to pair it with virtually anything. I decided to keep things light and paired my tee with cream skinny jeans from Woolies which I rolled up to create a summery look. My bold coral blazer from the Fly Holmes range at Mr Price was the statement piece for this ensemble. I adore the pocket detail and when I saw it in the store, well, I just couldn't tear my eyes away.

Pics by Tracey Lange
Now of course no outfit is complete without the perfect pair of shoes. One of my best buys this season is this cream pair of espadrille wedges - a hot trend this summer. Don't you just love ankle ties? Not only are these babies super comfortable but they go with so many different looks.

I'm very seldom without a statement ring so this festive finger candy was right up my alley. A tan belt with stud detail and a longer-length chunky necklace rounded off the look really well. One last look in the mirror and I was good to go.

Brunch was great and the conversation was even better. But here's the best part: when I got home, I took off my jacket, popped a pair of shorts on and, guess what, my white tee matched perfectly!

Until next time...happy shopping!
